Manuscript certificate “State of Ohio Champaign County Personally appeared before me a justice of the peace for said county William Zanes of Zanes Township and produced one old wolf scalp and was affirmed as the law directs that he killed it in the state therefor please to grant the said Zanes an order on the state treasurer for five dollars this the 13th of the yr 1812. John Greenwood J.P”.. 
Wolf Scalp certificates could be redeemed for bounty money, were transferable, and often served as a medium of exchange in cash poor early Ohio. 5 1/2x 8  on wove, rag-content paper; mildly age toned, ink is clear and readable, overall fine condition
