Tony Pastor (1837 – 1908), born Antonio Pestritto, he was a key figure in the development of vaudeville, a form of entertainment popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He managed his own theater, Tony Pastor's Opera House, and organized traveling minstrel troupes. He is known for cleaning up variety acts and making them more palatable for a broader audience, and became one of the founding forces behind American vaudeville in the mid-to-late-nineteenth century. He was sometimes referred to as the "Dean of Vaudeville".
