6 ¼ x 8 gelatin photo on 8 X 9 ¾ mount. “Harvest Home! At Yates City Ill August 16 1894”. Yates City, Illinois, a village in Knox County, northwest Illinois, was, and still is, home to the Harvest Home fair and festival. Image of a hot air balloon, and below, though very faintly, appears to be a balloon aerialist, the preverbal man on the flying trapeze (though it was a woman, Leona Dare, that was the most noted 19thc American trapeze artist and aerial acrobat, famous for her stunts on trapezes suspended from ascending balloons). Photographed by Hovenden, Trivoli, Ill. Scarce image though has dampstaing around much of the perimeter of the mount, extending into the edge on left edge. The t/l corner of the emulsion is missing, the back also exhibits dampstaining . lf et 077
