Montana Copper Mine Later US Senator W.A. Clark 1884 ABNC Blue 100 Shares Canceled
Issued and canceled stock certificate, 7 ½ x 11, for Moulton Mining Company for 100 Shares in 1886 with a vignette of miners working in a mine. Signature of the president of the company, W(illiam). A. Clark, later a U.S. Senator. He was merchant, mine operator, worked in Colorado and Montana gold mines. Represented mining interests in Montana politics and feuded with his fellow Democrat Marcus Daly. A refined but coldly practical man, he built up one of the West's greatest mining businesses and served as U.S. Senator from Montana, 1901-07.
Original light fold lines, Clark’s signature is slightly obscured by the small whole cancel, overall Vg-fine condition. sbmt001
